Holiday! Celebrate!

I had been driving hours and hours and hours in the middle of nowhere of Iowa, and now I am leaving for Japan. What a holiday.

Happy Holiday and Happy New Year everyone! I'll be back in town on the New Year's Eve.

Of course I didn't get Comcast cable today.

A Comcast technician was scheduled to come for installation today between 2 and 5 PM. Of course he didn't show up. I called customer service and was told she would locate the technician and call me back in 15 minutes. NO call. The technician arrived at 7pm. He tried to do something and said he couldn't do the installation because there was no wire in this building. He is supposed to come back on Monday. Let's see if it happens.

from Florida...h.

I'm in Florida. It's 3 f%&$ing: 30 AM. I've just done with my work. I seriously think I'm dumb.

Should I go to sleep? Or keep being awake to make sure I catch a flight tomorrow morning?

Bye Bye Manolos

I returned the Manolos. I am sad. I loved the shoes. Here is the story.

I bought the Manolos (I refuse to say “the shoes”) on Neiman Marcus website for 30% off price. The Manolos arrived last week. I opened the box with excitement, and found several scars on them. I decided to take them to Neiman Marcus store in Friendship Heights hoping that they have a replacement. The guy opened the box and said “Oh, Campari Mary Jane. Beautiful.” Me: “Yeah, I love them. But see, there are some scars….” Guy: “Oh, yeah….they happened in the box during the shipping. Which means, when you wear them, there will be more scars.” Me: “oh, you think so? L” Guy: “Oh, yes.” So I returned the Manolos. I was so sad, so I decided to go for a shopping spree. But, alas, after having seen the perfection of the Manolos, no shoes attracted me. I went home exhausted with empty hands….

Oh, but I bought a vintage funky pair of pants at Mustard Seeds in Bethesda for $5. Yeah, $5 pants can make me happy, too. Yey.

Beyonce the terrorist????

I saw this strange dream last night. I was vacationing in some sort of resort area. When I was having some drinks in a restaurant, this guy came in and started pouring some liquid murmuring "it should give the explosion more impact ...." I felt suspicious, but as it is always so in a dream, I didn't do anything. Then I saw this girl coming down the stairs from the second floor saying frantically "Beyonce! Beyonce!" Somehow I understood clearly what was going on (I don't remember what it was, though) and shouted "everyone, get out of the building! The bomb!" I carried the girl and fled to the outside....and the explosion followed. The building where the restaurant was located on the first floor was totally destroyed leaving only the outside structure. Can anyone tell me what this dream mean?? Maybe this dream is telling me "Return the Manolo and use the money to get cable"?

Project Runway new season starts next week

From Emmet McCarthy Fall Collection.

Now I want this dress badly.....VUBOQ, it's your fault! You owe me this dress!!

Sushi

I want to note something from the conversation with VUBOQ at BAR VUBOQ last night.

The former Japanese defense Minister, who was the first female defense minister in Japan’s history, asked people to call her “Madam Sushi.” She said that is because she is often compared to Condi Rice (rice->sushi).

According to Urban Dictionary,

11. Sushi

Definition: Any shaved pussy.

Origin: Most Asian women naturally do not have much hair on their pussy's hence shaved pussy's are called sushi.

I was at Keshia's last night and damn if she didn't serve sushi. I ate that sushi all night long.

Hmmm.....

Dear Earthlink, your customer service is VERY BAD

OK, I’ve decided to be wise enough. Maybe I should invest in cable instead….

This morning, I received an e-mail from Earthlink. It said that a monthly fee for dial-up Internet service of $9.95 is past due. I canceled my account of this Internet provider in August. So I called customer service. The customer service, Jim (I don’t think this is his real name. I believe their customer service is outsourced to India), said when I called the customer service in August to cancel my account, I agreed to accept an offer to continue using the service. I said “I DID NOT accept any offer. I just canceled my account.”

Jim: “Yes, you did agree to accept the offer. You have to pay $9.95.”

Me: “I said, I DID NOT. I have Verizon DSL. Why should I accept an offer to continue using your service? Don’t you think it’s your mistake?’

Jim: “Again, you agreed to accept the offer. You owe us $9.95. Do you understand?”

Me: “I need to talk to your manager.”

Jim: “Oh, ok, I’ll close your account.”

Me: “What is your name, please?”

Jim: “Jim. It spells J.I.M.”

Me: “I know how to spell Jim.”

Jim: “Oh, yeah?”

Me: “OK, but I still need to talk to your manager about your customer service.”

Jim: “Why? I’ve already closed your account.”

(this exchange was repeated more than 5 times)

Me: “CAN I TALK TO YOUR MANAGER, PLEEEAAASE?”

Jim: “OK”

(15 minutes later…….)

Danny the manager: “May I help you?”

After a looooong conversation with Danny, I finally got an apology and an e-mail, which is almost incomprehensible because of lots of misspelling, to confirm the cancelation of my account.

I’m sure I’ll receive another bill from Earthlink next month.

Help!

Manolo Blahnik is 30% off plus free shipping at Neiman Marcus website today. I can't decide which one.....or if I'm wise enough, I just should forget about the deal.
What should I do?

Fun Weekend and The End Of Daylight Saving Time

It was a weekend full of fun. I took a day off on Friday. I had never took a day off during the week for no reason before. It was great. I woke up around 8:30am and saw people going to work. It felt great. I made a pancake for breakfast and had some coffee. Mmmm…. And then went to the gym, fixed lunch and took a nap. Mmmmmm….. And I was on time (well, actually a little late) for Happy Hour for the first time! Woo Hoo!! I and Steven met Mike at Halo. Halo changed their Happy Hour policy, and my first Cosmo was disappointing. The second one made by a nice bartender was good, though. The man at the bar told me “I love your dress, shoes and necklace. You look great.” I said “Thank you!” Then he said (or I thought he said) “Don’t tell me you are tranny.” I said “Whaaattt? Nope, I was born as a woman.” He looked confused and said “Oh, no, no, no. I said ‘attorney.’” Whew.

We walked to another bar to meet Jerry, Steven’s friend, and had some beer. More fun. Then we had a dinner at Skewers. Yuval joind us. Yum. I ate a salad with bugs (or so Mike believes…they were actually shrimps). Yuval gave us (me and Steven) a ride home. I dropped by Bar Steven for a fabulous martini. I love Bar Steven. Always Happy Hour. No hidden cost. The owner/bartender is niceJ And you can walk home!! It takes less than a minute! You can’t have more.

On Saturday, I watched Japanese historical drama on DVD. Then went to swim at the gym. Then I and my husband went to IKEA to buy…finally, a cabinet with a gift card my friends gave me as a house warming present. I had also bought some wine, martini and champagne glasses with the gift card. There is still balance left in the card, so I’m planning to stock up some booze….yey! Thanks everyone!

On Sunday, I did grocery shopping at a Korean store and went to pick up my friend who lives in Arlington to go to Korean massage/body scrub together. I crossed the Key Bridge, saw her apartment complex, and…..it passed…..Awwww……somehow I ended up in Kennedy Center. I hate Key Bridge. After wondering around somewhere for 40 minutes, I managed to go back to Key Bridge. This time I called my friend and asked her to navigate me to her place. I made it. Whew. I. Never. Cross. Key. Bridge. Again. After the massage and giving her a ride home, I went home. I cooked, cooked, cooked….for 2 hours. I don’t have to cook for a week. Or more. A problem is my husband doesn’t know how to appreciate the art of cooking. For him, “thinly sliced burdock (it takes forever) fried and stewed with thin sliced beef in a sweet soy sauce” tastes same as just simply grilled beef. He can’t say difference between homemade herb marinated beets and canned beets. I need someone who appreciate my cooking….

I want to smell the leather

I didn't like the pair I bought from Zappos (the one in black). So now I'm thinking one of these. What'ya think?

It's official

This morning, my breath turned white for the first time this season. In the bus, I felt the heater was on. I wore my new knee-high boots. It's officially fall, everyone.

I want them both. Can I?

Because I (heart) Zappos.com, too!

As cranky as bad hummus

I bought hummus from Whole Foods yesterday. The expiration date was November 3rd. I opened it, dipped a baby carrot in it and ate it. It tasted sour. Something stung my tongue. I smelled it. Agh. It was bad. How could I know something that had been sold in Whole Foods yesterday was already bad?? I immediately sterilized my mouth with martini. It worked.

I've been cranky. I've been living and working in this country legally for years. I pay tax. I've contributed to US economy by buying lots of shoes. I have career and life here. I can't get a job in Japan. No one wants to hire a woman over 30 with experience in Japan. I'm a gender refugee. So why does this country refuse to give me a permission to stay a little longer? It's so unfair. I have to fight.

Jesus Rocks!

The other day, in a metro station, I passed by two young nuns. I overheard them chatting: "You know, like, Jesus is like...." "Yeah, totally. Like....." I thought it was funny. And I liked their outfit. It was gray and turquoise-ish color.

I was very hungover yesterday. I spent the whole day on the couch. Feeling that I wasted a day, this morning I decided to go to the gym early. The Silver Spring WSC opens at 8am on Sundays. I got there around 8:20am, being very motivated. I saw 5-6 people in front of the gym. They said the gym was not open yet. We waited, waited, waited.....Finally a staff showed up around 9am!!
We were given NO apology or explanation. I think I'll send them a very angry e-mail.

Because of this, I was late for the brunch at Mike's place. Mike prepared fantastic blueberry pancakes, vege-sausages, and eggs. Yum.

I’ve just finished writing a long feature article. I’m sure I deserve a new pair of shoes.

Gloria Gaynor in the south side of 8 mile road

It's quite depressing here. People have no health insurance and are
losing their houses. Yet mothers still hold their heads up high. They
are really cool.

I passed the now famous 8 mile road. According to a local person, the area around 8 mile road is actually quite a nice area.

I've just finished reading "To kill a mockingbird." It is a great book. I
just bought "An Invisible Man" today. I'll start reading it tomorrow in
a flight to KY.

BTW, people call small diners "Corney Island" here. In any other places in US, too?

Hello from Detroit

I'm in Detroit. This $125 hotel room has a jacuzzi and a treadmill.
Yes, next to the bed. The backyard is a huge storage park, though. The
first thing I did was to locate a liquor store and secure some alcohol
for a night cap. Then I had a dinner at a deserted restaurant next to
the hotel. I asked for balsamic vinaigrette for my salad. Of course
they did not have it. I felt ashamed of being snobbish. But the guys
next table asked a waitress "could I have some fresh ground pepper?"
The waitress brought the pepper mill and said "OMG, you're the first person to ask for this for a loooooong time." I think I like this place.

Fall 2007

I'm leaving for Detroit in a few hours. I have some opportunities to make business trips. Des Moines and Cedar Rapids of Iowa, Reno and Carson City of Nevada, New Hampshire, somewhere in Conecticut, Indianapolis, Detroit and Louisville, KY.....It's good because I'll probably never visit these places for myself. And I often find some interesting things there.

It's chilly outside. I don't like cold weather, but I love this clear air and sky in fall. I wore long sleeves yesterday for the first time in this season. I may need to pull out some fall/winter clothes from my storage next weekend. And I may go for a walk in Sligo Creek Park.

It's fall. Kinda nice.

Project Experiment

I just wanted to try to post a video. And because I love Project Runway.
Do I need cable for the upcoming season four?

Dream Bootie

I really want this Christian Louboutin bootie.....$760. Sigh.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes.

I lost the bid on the Jimmy Choo boots, and bought this pair from Dollhouse on Zappos.com. I love them, and they are of course way cheaper than Jimmy Choo.

I love Zappos.com....I ordered this pair yesterday and they arrived today. I actually ordered two pairs in different size, and returned the one which didn't fit. Return shipping is free. No risk. Great.

By the way, this pair is Neiman Marcus's 100th anniversary edition of Manolo BlahnikCrystal & Chain sandals. Just for my eyes' feast.

There are so many beautiful shoes out there. Why do some people choose to wear flip-flops? What are they going to wear in winter? UGG boots? AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

The End of Summer

So, it's the end of summer (I'm going to Virginia Beach next weekend, though). It always makes me a little sad. Saturday was the last Saturday Afternoon Margarita for this summer. It was fun. But it wasn't the same as last summer. I guess it is also the end of an era (is it "the end of era" or "the end of the era"?? These definite articles make me crazy). It makes me sad. Very sad.

I love Jim Morrison, but "the end" is not my friend.

Maybe I should get a cable.....

My fetish

Ok, this one is right. This is an image of my fetish. Pink characters mean "breast" or "boobs," black ones are "beard" or "goatees," and white ones mean "self." Yes, they are my fetish!

My brain

For those who are not Japanese speaker, this is an image of the inside of my brain. This website analyzes your brain from your name. I don't know how it works...but anyways, my brain is filled with "friends (blue characters)" "money (yellow)" "rest (white)" and "lies (red)" Hmmmmmm......

OK, it's not black. Whatever.

I'm planning to bid on this pair of Jimmy Choo on Ebay.

Cross your fingers for me.

Notes on Hawaii

Here are some notes about my vacation in Hawaii. Because it was such a great vacation that the memory is fading fast......

7/27 (Fri): I and my husband left home around 4:30am and headed for BWI by Super Shuttle. We flew with Continental Airlines via Houston to Honolulu---3 hours plus 8 hours, terrible food (e.g. frozen pizza) and no alcohol. Gah. We arrived in Honolulu International Airport around 2pm. We waited for my family (my parents, sister, her husband, and two lovely nieces) who had arrived there 3 days before from Japan. I assumed my job as a tour guide…since my family doesn’t speak a lot of English. But my mom can communicate with anyone from any country in Japanese. And my dad doesn’t hesitate even for a second to talk to locals in any country with his broken English. I love them. Anyways, then we took 40 minutes flight to Hawaii Island, a.k.a Big Island.

We arrived in Kona Airport around 6pm, rented cars and headed for a house we rented for a week. The realtor noticed us in the last minute that the house we had reserved had some sewage problem. He took us to another house instead. It turned out that we were lucky. The house was huge and gorgeous. Five bedrooms with full bathroom each, a huge swimming pool and ocean view. We were exhausted, but I couldn’t go to sleep without beer after the long day. So I took my husband to a super market nearby and got some beer and food. Then drank, ate, and went to sleep.

7/28(Sat.): I woke up very early because of the jet lag. I flip-flopped for a while, and got up around 5:30am. I heard nothing but birds singing. It was cool, around 70F. Sea breeze. Hmmm….I stepped out to the front yard and saw a mongoose. A tour guide later told me that mongooses were introduced to Hawaii to have them catch rats, which were brought into Hawaii by outsiders. But they didn’t hunt rats but instead started eating eggs of indigenous birds which became an endangered species. But the mongoose was cute and my nieces were crazy about them.

7/29(Sun): My sister’s friends arrived from Japan and joined us. But their luggage did not. Somehow their luggage stayed in Honolulu because of some lazy TSA officials. Fortunately they arrived at night after hundreds of phone calls. In the afternoon, we went to a coffee plantation owned by a Japanese coffee company, Doutor. The plantation has a beautiful garden full of exotic flowers and fruit trees. We planted a coffee tree. We hope someday we can go back there for a harvest and roast our own coffee.

7/30(Mon): My father and my sister’s friends joined a tour to Mauna Kea mountain. The rest of us enjoyed relaxed time on the beach and snorkeling nearby. We met some sea turtles there. They looked nice.

7/31(Tue): We visited a painted church and another coffee plantation. I and my husband prepared BBQ for a dinner. My sister’s friend, a hula dancer, gave us a lesson. We all had fun.

8/1(Wed): We joined a tour to the volcano area. Unfortunately there were no lava flows, but the tour was interesting.

8/2(Thu): We joined Kealakekua Bay snorkel cruise. The bay is an underwater state park and natural sanctuary. It was great. When I was snorkeling, because of the up to 100 feet underwater visibility, I felt like flying over coral reefs….super beautiful. Crew boys were super cute. And we saw dolphins, too! Their morning cruise is more popular because the afternoon weather tends not to be great in Kona area. But we enjoyed a lot, and considering that the afternoon cruise is cheaper, we thought we made a right choice.

8/3 (Fri): We said bye-bye to the gorgeous house and flew back to Honolulu. We all thought we should have stayed in the Big Island two more days instead of spending time in Honolulu.

8/4 (Sat): I took my mom to a Hawaiian massage. We saw a free Hula show on the beach. We decided we would skip Honolulu next time if we ever had chance to go to Hawaii again.

8/5 (Sun): My family left in the morning. We became a little emotional. My nieces cried. So did my husband and I. We spent the rest of the day on the beach. We had a lunch at a Japanese restaurant “Sushi-Ko.” Highly recommended. Sushi was excellent. The atmosphere and service were also great. We had some Mai-Tai again and headed for the airport…..

You Call Me "A Book"

I just recollect that one of my nieces (who just turned to 8 yrs old) told me the sweetest thing while we were vacationing in Hawaii.

My niece: "Your name is 'book' from now."
Me: "Book?? Why?????"
My niece: "Because books are my most favorite things in the world! And I like you the most in the world!"

Isn't she adorable?

I'm bi-partisan

I and my friend had a very important political discussion this morning. Which politician is f**kable and which one is not. Yes, there was the same conversation in a SATC episode. This morning, this photo of Putin prompted the conversation.

For me, he is definitely f-able. Bush might also have a good body, but No-no. It's nothing political. I just can't do him. Bill Clinton, yes-yes. Whatever people say, I still think he is sexy. Among 2008 hopefuls.....maybe Obama after having seen his "beach babe" photo.

Oh, I saw Ari Fleisher on today's Washington Post. Well, he is not a politician, but I've always thought he is sexy. See, I'm bi-partisan on this matter.

I'm leaving for a business trip tonight. I'm still working on the post on Hawaii vacation....never ending.....

Sports Bar and Karaoke Bar

Saks shoe floor dwarfs Imelda Marcos collection

Diablo sent me this link. I have to go to NYC. NOW.

Last night was so much fun. We missed you, though, VUBOQ. I joined Mike, Darryl and Atul at this new gay sports bar Nellie's after work around 7PM. I usually don't like sports bars, but this one was surprisingly cozy and nice. And $2 Snow Queen vodka drinks Happy Hour! We had several rounds of drinks on the first floor, then moved to the roof top. It was soooo nice. We had more drinks, and more laugh. We became hungry and decided to eat downstairs. Food was again surprisingly good. We shared Mac&Cheese fritters (yes, it's fritters! Again I usually don't like mac& cheese, this one was good), Buffalo Wings, Caesar salad (I and Mike couldn't eat this because of the lack of silver ware) and mini burgers. We ate like baseball players.

Then we walked, walked, walked......to go to see Atul's friend working at a Karaoke bar. I don't remember the name of the place, but apparently everyone had been there before. It was an interesting place for me...people were singing Karaoke and TV was showing...."Family Feud." And some people were very friendly in very strange way.

We left around 11:30PM, I guess, and sweet Mike gave me a ride home.

I'm planning to go to hair cut today....to Hair Cuttery. Then I'll visit my friend Miho who recently bought a town house in Rockville.

Oh, where is my long post about my vacation in Hawaii? It's coming, coming....

Search for Perfect Boots Just Began

I'm looking for black boots this year. The first one is my dream boots which I won't be able to afford (Roberto Cavalli....$2,000).

Many boots are not yet available on Zappos.com, so I may wait for a while to choose THE boots for this year.

Stay Tuned

I'm working on a looooong post about my Hawaii vacation. I'm hoping to finish writing it this weekend....Stay tuned.

BTW, I've got DSL at home! Yey.

From Today's Washington Post "Reliable Source"

'The Invasion' Takes a Few Liberties Around D.C.

Thursday, August 16, 2007; Page C03

Remember how excited we all were when Nicole Kidman camped out in D.C. for six weeks filming "The Visiting" in fall 2005? She was all over town: snubbing extras, buying underwear, spotted with soon-to-be-hubby Keith Urban at 1789. We figured if the crew spent that much time hanging out, the movie (renamed "The Invasion" -- third remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers") would get Washington right. And it does (D.C. police cars and uniforms; there really is a Fort Dietrich biological warfare lab in Maryland) -- except for a few bloopers we spotted at Tuesday's screening.

· Kidman, who plays a D.C. psychiatrist, buys magazines at one of those big sidewalk newsstand kiosks -- the ones all over New York but not on any corner in this town.

Where's that Walgreens? Nicole Kidman sprints through the Cleveland Park Metro (or
Where's that Walgreens? Nicole Kidman sprints through the Cleveland Park Metro (or "subway") station in "Invasion." (Warner Bros. Pictures)

· Her fabulous downtown office window looks out on a bunch of skyscrapers.

· Kidman and her hot single doctor love interest ( Daniel Craig before he was Bond) pull into a big empty parking space in front of her fabulous Georgetown house. Ha! Happens once a decade! Oh, and he lives across the street in an equally fabulous house. Not even on doctors' salaries.

· The two attend a formal dinner at the Czech Embassy (really the residence of the ambassador of Chile), where they're seated next to each other -- at real formal dinners, couples are seated at different tables. And everyone is served black caviar, a gift from the Russian ambassador. Nyet. He'd save the good stuff for his own party.

· While escaping her alien ex-husband, she runs past a Walgreens drugstore in Cleveland Park. Not there.

· On the Metro, the announcer says, "The subway doors are now closing." Subway?

· To get from Georgetown to Cleveland Park, she drives through a tunnel. Seems like the long route. Oh, it's also rush hour and there's no traffic. In our dreams.

· She's got the most awesome cellphone since "24's" Jack Bauer -- no dropped calls, never needs charging.

Hello from Hawaii

My brother-in-law took this photo while we were snorkeling today. We did snorkeling at a beach 5 minutes away from the house we are renting. It was so beautiful.

I met some sea turtles there, too.

I'm stress-free here.....yey. Nature heals you.

What goes around never come around

Do you believe "What goes around comes around"? I don't. Particularly these days.

I think those jerks and bitches will live happily ever after and die laughing. Unfortunately I think that's the reality of life.

Looking at the bright side, I'll leave for vacation in Hawaii in two days. I and my husband will stay in a vacation house in Big Island with my family traveling from Japan. Yey.

Agh, I'm still not that excited.....because of this work place stress....

Oh, girls night yesterday was fun. It's so nice to bitch about things with girls. One of them mentioned how well big boobs work to get promoted in Japan...An example: our new defense minister. Maybe I need to consider boob job seriously...

Shoes Matter

First, an answer to Bala Wala Shi’s question. I usually buy shoes online from Zappos.com and Shoes.com. They have an extensive variety of shoes (more on Zappos) and you can search by heel height, color, size, etc. You will not really get a real bargain, but the best thing about these sites is they are free shipping BOTH WAYS. So you can order shoes and try them on, and if you don’t like them, you can just return with no cost. I have recently noticed SmartBargains.com has a good deal though its variety and stock is limited. I sometimes find a “find” at Overstock.com. I’m not impressed by Bluefly.com so far. Too expensive. To just feast my eyes, I go to Neimanmarcus.com….just to look at beautiful shoes which I can’t afford. If you want to find bargain manolos, you should go to your nearest Neiman Marcus store. They sometimes have last chance clearance sale, and you can buy a pair of manolo for a little more than $100 (hey, it’s manolo!).

In a meantime, those flip-flops continue to bother me. I mean, why do you choose to wear flip-flops when there are hundreds of beautiful shoes out there??? I don’t get it. And I told this to VUBOQ last night, and he said I should blog about this…..I often see women changing their flip-flops to pumps or sandals in a metro or a park on the way to their office. And they put their flip-flops into their purses or handbags! EEEEWWWW! No, they don’t put those flip-flops into a plastic bag or wrap them with something before putting them into their handbags full of her other belongings. And they do vice-versa on the way home. I just can’t believe it. Do they know sidewalks are not really clean??

Besides, you never know who’s checking you out on the street, girls! You may be missing opportunities to be picked up by shoes-or-legs-fetish- millionaire-bachelors (oh, well, maybe not in DC, but, anyways)! Believe me, you look more fabulous in a beautiful pair of shoes.

Oh, wait a minute, look who I’ve got married to…..never mind.

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Would anyone buy me these, please?

They are too beautiful.....sigh.

The Shoes

I'm surprised that people noticed the fabulousness of my shoes from that small photo....This is my favorite pair. I want another in blue.....if I can afford.
